Garage sales (or yard sales) have been an integral part of American culture since the 1960s. Generally, a yard sale is put together in spring when a family takes on a project of cleaning up their house (or garage) of the items they don't need. The venue for the yard sale can be one's front- or backyard, a carport, or a garage. The articles sold at such sales are mostly kitchen utensils, mismatched furniture, used toys, board games, random knickknacks, and clothing. Yard sales are the ultimate destination for aspiring decorators, students, newly-weds, and anybody working on a limited budget.
Nowadays garage sales are becoming a thing of the past as more people prefer selling their unwanted household items online using craigslist, ebay, and amazon to conduct their sales. Relocating to another place has prompted me and my husband to check out craigslist and some yard-sales as well. So far, not only have we found great deals on household essentials, but we have met a number of interesting people that we didn't know lived in this small town! We will still be looking for great deals online, and hope to find more bargains to put into our apartment. Truly, "one man's junk is another man's treasure."
